Kyrsten Sinema is one of the more unique lawmakers serving in the United States Senate. The Arizona Democrat prefers to march to the beat of her own drummer, wearing colorful clothing to attract attention.

According to an upcoming book by Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns, she also uses her clothing in different ways. The New York Times writers report that Sinema dresses a certain way to appeal to her uptight Republican colleagues.
Martin and Burns note that the lawmaker, “boasted knowingly to colleagues and aides that her cleavage had an extraordinary persuasive effect on the uptight men of the GOP.” They also quote her as saying that she finds it easy to charm Republican men.

Sinema, however, has not done quite as good a job at developing a relationship with Joe Biden. The reporters write, “One person close to the president likened Biden’s perplexity at Sinema to his difficulty grasping his grandchildren’s use of the viral-video app TikTok. He wanted to relate, but he just didn’t quite get it.”
