Kyle Rittenhouse’s Mother Joins GOP Women’s Event While Son Awaits Trial; Gets Standing Ovation

Wendy Rittenhouse, mother of Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old charged with homicide in the shooting deaths of two protestors in Kenosha, Wisconsin, joined a right-wing author at a GOP Women event, where she received a standing ovation.

While Kyle Rittenhouse awaits trial for murder, his mother was partying with his lawyer, right-wing pundit Michelle Malkin, and a crowd of Republican women Thursday night. Malkin, who has even been ousted from some conservative circles for support of antisemitic figures, was a featured speaker at the event, according to Bulwark host Charlie Sykes.

Malkin shared a photo on her own page of herself, Wendy Rittenhouse, and John Pierce, one of the attorneys representing Kyle. She also said she’d been in contact with the 17-year-old defendant by phone, and thanked him for his courage.

Malkin previously characterized the incident that ended with Rittenhouse allegedly shooting three people as a case of the teenager being “attacked by violent mob of criminal thugs [and] beaten [with a] skateboard” and merely defending himself. His lawyers tell the same story.

Another lawyer for Rittenhouse, Lin Wood, shared Malkin’s post, declaring that he admired Malkin because “she drives leftist-militants crazy.”

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rittenhouse made his first appearance in court Friday, the morning after his mother’s standing ovation, appearing via Zoom from the juvenile detention center where he is being held, for a hearing in Illinois regarding his extradition to Wisconsin to face the charges against him. His attorneys say they intend to fight extradition, attempting to keep the teenaged shooter in Illinois rather than handing him over to Wisconsin authorities.
