Kirstjen Nielsen’s Friends Say She’s ‘Completely Unhireable’ Now
Former DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen joined the ranks of many high-level Trump cabinet officials to either get fired apprentice-style or simply resign. Nielson was part of the latter after reportedly having several disputes with President Trump over his incredibly hardline stance is on immigration, including the controversial child separation policy.
As a result of working with the chaotic Trump administration, it seems she’s completely unhireable, according to her friends and colleagues.
Sources close to Nielsen’s former team at the DHS told The Atlantic that while it’s typical for people who leave senior government positions like DHS secretary to have high-powered private sector jobs waiting for them, things are a bit different for Nielsen given her brutal policies at the DHS.
“She’s going to have a real challenge getting on boards,” one GOP operative familiar with Nielsen’s team and their thinking said in the wake of her forced resignation
But it seems Nielsen’s future employability was in Jeopardy even before her resignation, as many Republican colleagues knew that her association with Trump’s cruel immigration policies were going to harm her.
“It was like, ‘We’re going to get hung with this,’” the operative said. “So they were thinking even then, ‘What does she do after this?’
Nielsen told reporters that she turned in her resignation so that she could spend more time with her family. She made no clear indication on where her career may be headed next, however.
