Kevin McCarthy: The GOP Shouldn’t Impeach Joe Biden for ‘Political Reasons’

When Donald Trump was in office, he was impeached twice for clear reasons. Despite that fact, the impeachments have angered many Republicans.

Once Joe Biden came into office, some GOP lawmakers pledged to attack him in the same way that they felt Trump was attacked. Marjorie Tayor Greene issued articles of impeachment against Biden during his first week in office. She wrote at the time, “President Joe Biden is unfit to hold the office of the Presidency. His pattern of abuse of power as President Obama’s Vice President is lengthy and disturbing.”

Of course, Greene is not a serious person, so she didn’t get very far. Still, GOP lawmakers continue to talk about impeaching Biden. During a Sunday television appearance, Kevin McCarthy said doing so for political reasons would be a mistake.

The House Minority leader told Maria Bartiromo, “One thing we learned that the Democrats did is they – they used impeachment for political reason.”

McCarthy continued, “We believe in the rule of law. We’re not going to pick and choose just because somebody has power. We’re going to uphold the law. At any time, if someone breaks the law and the ramification becomes impeachment, we would move towards that. But we’re not going to use it for political purposes.”
