During an interview with The Late Show's Stephen Colbert last night, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that it would be easier for the United States if the country just had universal healthcare.
Trudeau has been the Prime Minister of Canada since 2015, meaning that Barack Obama, Donald Trump and Joe Biden have all served as President during his time in office. And while he has had working relationships with all of them, it is clear that he prefers working with Democrats.
Colbert and Trudeau hit on several topics during their conversation, including the fact that the Canadian PM is facing a challenge from Pierre Poilievre, who the host referred to as "Canada's Trump."
They two also talked about how tariffs hurt the American people. Colbert asked about the difference between the two countries, asking, "Is it soft lumber tariffs?"
"Yeah. These are issues, but there are always small issues that matter. I mean, you guys are paying too much for your lumber because you have tariffs on them. And that does not make any sense. We keep trying to point that out for you. We will keep working on that."
The host also hit on the cost of prescription drugs in America, asking, "We come up to you guys to get cheaper drugs. We come over the border for cheaper drugs. Are you guys okay with that?"
"We are happy to try and help you out," Trudeau responded, "but it would be really easier if you guys had universal health care."
