Wednesday, October 16, 2019, was the1,000th day that President Donald Trump had been in office. To mark the occasion, Politico reporter Dan Diamond took a screenshot image of the New York Times landing page, and noted that the headlines alone were out of this world for anyone who might have fallen asleep in 2016 and woken up now.
“The front page of the NYT website — on day 1,000 of the Trump administration — reads like a parody prediction from 2016 of what Trump’s presidency would look like,” Diamond wrote in a tweet accompanying the screenshot picture.
The headlines on the Times’ website are indeed beyond recognition from what could have been expected just three years ago. Here’s a selection of some of the headlines from the site:
- Trump lashes Out on Syria as Republicans Strongly Rebuke Him in Vote
- Inside a Derailed White House Meeting
- White House Aide Feared Trump Appointee Was National Security Risk
- “Don’t be a fool! I will call you later.” Read the letter Mr. Trump sent to Turkey’s leader.
- Trump’s Impeachment Blockade Crumbles as Witnesses Agree to Talk

The Washington Post also marked the occasion of Trump’s 1,000th day with an article by Features writer Dan Zak, who noted the president’s recent words 1,000 days in rather than the headlines he generated.
“It’s a lot of sand…They’ve got a lot of sand over there. So there’s a lot of sand they can play with,” Trump said Wednesday, for instance, regarding the situation in Syria.
Zak noted other comments from earlier in the month, in the run-up to the 1,000th day. “Such a one sided Witch Hunt going on in USA. Deep State. Shameful!” Trump recently tweeted.
And though we’re years beyond the 2016 election contest, Zak also pointed out how some of the things Trump still goes on and on about never change, including his insistence on investigating Democrats and his former political rival Hillary Clinton.
“How come the FBI never got the server from the DNC? Where is the server? I wanna see the server. Let’s see what’s on the server,” Trump recently said.
Trump’s 1,000th day indeed ended with dysfunction, as a meeting between Congressional lawmakers and his office spiraled out of control after Democrats walked out due to the president’s alleged disrespectful behavior. Trump purportedly called Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi a “third-rate politician,” suggested ISIS fighters were like communists, and insinuated Pelosi would be happy if they were, previous reporting from HillReporter.com noted.
Pelosi described Trump’s behavior in the meeting as a “meltdown.” Later, Trump said it was Pelosi who acted in a disreputable way.
“Nancy Pelosi needs help fast! There is either something wrong with her ‘upstairs, or she just plain doesn’t like our great Country,” Trump tweeted after the meeting.
