By voting to avoid having witnesses appear during the Trump Impeachment trials, many incumbent GOP senators made their 2020 reelection campaigns more difficult. Among these lawmakers are Cory Gardner of Colorado, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Martha McSally of Arizona.
Another Republican facing another tough campaign in 2020 is Iowa’s Joni Ernst. Ernst, however, is not backing down from her support for the President. During a Sunday interview, she said that if Joe Biden is to be elected, Republicans will immediately move to impeach him.
Ernst made the comments during an interview with Bloomberg News. She blamed Democrats for opening the door to future impeachment trials.
“I think this door of impeachable whatever has been opened,” said the Iowa senator. “Joe Biden should be very careful what he’s asking for because, you know, we can have a situation where if it should ever be President Biden, that immediately, people, right the day after he would be elected would be saying, ‘Well, we’re going to impeach him.”
Ernst wasn’t the only Republican making threats against the Bidens this morning. During an appearance on Fox News, Lindsey Graham said he intends to call Hunter Biden and former Obama officials about business dealings in the Ukraine.
