John McCain Says His Sons Would Be ‘Court-Martialed’ If They Acted Like Donald Trump Jr.
Senator John McCain has taken aim at Donald Trump Jr. The U.S. Senator grew increasingly angry after it was revealed Trump Jr. took a meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya during the 2016 campaign. McCain says a similar situation during his 2008 Presidential campaign would have been deemed immediately unacceptable.
“I can assure you the people around me would not be inclined to do that kind of thing, especially not one of my sons. ‘Cause my sons—they’re in the military. You know, they’d probably be court-martialed,” McCain said Tuesday, according to the Weekly Standard .
Donald Trump Jr. came under fire this week after a report from The New York Times unearthed details about his meeting with Veselnitskaya.
In a weird series of responses to that meeting, Trump Jr. said he was meeting with the Russian lawmaker to discuss child adoption policies. He then claimed that the Clinton administration was colluding with Russian to rig the U.S. election, despite her hands off policy with Vladimir Putin and the Russian government.
On Tuesday, Trump Jr. released an email chain confirming he had been promised “very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”
Following the release of that email chain, McCain and other top Republican Senators demanded that Trump Jr. testify before Congress. “We’ve got a lot more to learn about the whole issue. … Another shoe drops from the centipede every few days,” McCain said.
Welcome to the Red State…
