John Legend Roasts Nikki Haley Over her Trump Death Penalty Comments

Nikki Haley, the former Governor of South Carolina, was at one time, one of the shining stars of Donald Trump’s administration. She resigned from her United Nations Ambassador position at the end of 2018. There were rumors that she may run for President, but they never came to fruition.

The former ambassador is still in Trump’s corner and recently defended him during an interview with CBS. Musician and activist, John Legend, took offense at Haley referring to Trump’s potential impeachment as “the death penalty” and took her to task over Twitter.

Haley was asked about the impeachment inquiry into Trump by CBS’ Norah O’Donnell. She told the host, “There‚Äôs nothing in that transcript that warrants the death penalty for the president.”

Legend who regularly advocates for criminal justice reform was not happy with Haley’s hyperbole. He tweeted at the former lawmaker, “It’s not the death penalty. It’s firing him from the most important job in the country because he can’t be trusted with it. Real people are actually sentenced to death. This is not that.”

The musician then ripped Haley for supporting a President who may not be up to the job. He continued, “You seem like a very bright person. You obviously know he’s not morally or intellectually fit for office. I wish you would admit it for the sake of the nation and your own credibility.”

Haley is currently working on the board for the airplane maker, Boeing. The popular former governor is likely to campaign for Republican candidates in 2020.
