John Dean Rips Into “Pathetic” Congressional Republicans

Serving as a White House Counsel for Richard Nixon, John Dean became a prominent voice during the Watergate hearings. The House Judiciary Committee had Dean answer questions on Monday about the parallels between the Mueller and Watergate investigations.

Many of the Republicans on the committee looked to verbally spar with the lawyer and lessen the impact of the testimony. Today, Dean took to Twitter to call out those members of Congress for their behavior.

The frequent TV pundit wrote, “Congressional Republicans are a pathetic lot. They’ve descended into trying to out-Trump, Trump. This is the way authoritarian followers strut their stuff for their leader. It is pretty weak but if I can provoke them to show the true nature of their vile behavior that is good.”

Dean had a number of notable exchanges during his testimony yesterday, perhaps none more memorable than the one with Matt Gaetz. Gaetz, a common surrogate for President Trump, asked Dean questions about things that had nothing to do with the Mueller Investigation.

The Florida Congressman asked about Medicare for All, following with, “Let’s get specific to Nixon, since that appears to be why you’re here.” Dean responded, “Well, actually, Nixon DID have a health care plan,” as laughter rang out throughout the building.

Of course, President Trump was not impressed with Dean’s comments during the hearing. He wrote on Twitter, “Can’t believe they are bringing in John Dean, the disgraced Nixon White House Counsel who is a paid CNN contributor. No Collusion – No Obstruction! Democrats just want a do-over which they’ll never get!”
