Joe Biden Wants Live Fact-Checking During the Presidential Debates

When he began his term as President, Donald Trump had issues with the truth. It has only gotten worse over time. Trump told so many lies during the Republican National Convention that a clip of the Washington Post’s Daniel Dale fact-checking him went viral online.

And if the RNC was any indication, Trump has no interest in telling the truth going forward. Joe Biden was asked about the President’s frequent lying during a Wednesday briefing. He told reporters that he would like for the upcoming Presidential debates to be live fact-checked.

“I’ve begun to prepare by going over what the president has said, and the multiple lies he’s told,” said the former Vice President. What I’d love to have is a crawler at the bottom of the screen, a fact-checker as we speak. If we really wanted to do something, I think that would make a great, great debate if everything both of us said was instantly fact-checked.”

Biden also explained that putting this request into action could be difficult. He said that if the idea wasn’t feasible, he planned, “to lay out as clearly as I can what I think we have to do to bring this country back.”

Trump is certainly not a fan of being called out for his lies. After Twitter labeled one of his May tweets to be false, he raged, “Twitter is now interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election. They are saying my statement on Mail-In Ballots, which will lead to massive corruption and fraud, is incorrect, based on fact-checking by Fake News CNN and the Amazon Washington Post. Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!”
