Joe Biden Is Still Throwing Shade At Donald Trump With New Tax Return Release
President Joe Biden released his 2020 tax returns Monday, and released a public statement through the White House portal, giving voters some information about their income and how they’ve used it. However, even in this, there’s a little shade to be thrown at Donald Trump, who repeatedly teased the hypothetical eventual release of his own taxes, while continuing to hide them.
Most of the statement, which can be found in full here, is just basic information — Joe and Dr. Jill Biden filed jointly, they donated a little over 5% of their income in total to ten different charities, and paid around 25% of it in Federal income taxes.
However, in the opening paragraph, there’s a very quick reference to Trump, though not by name. Instead, the Bidens mention that they’re resuming this tradition that has been almost unbroken.
That paragraph is reproduced below with emphasis added.
“Today, the President released his 2020 federal income tax return, continuing an almost uninterrupted tradition. With this release, the President has shared a total of 23 years of tax returns with the American public.”
It’s also not just that Trump is no longer in office or that hiding his taxes made him the exception in an ongoing practice — as reported by the Associated Press, his might actually be a risk for him. It wasn’t only the public that waited for years to see Trump’s financial information. The Manhattan DA was, during those same years, pursuing these records in court. The public never did get them, but District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. did — and continues to investigate whether they contain evidence of criminal financial activity.
