Jerry Falwell Jr. Wants To Wear Mask With Klan Hood and Blackface

Jerry Falwell who is the President of Liberty University made some very controversial comments on Wednesday. He took to Twitter to voice his dismay about an upcoming requirement to wear a mask while in public in Virginia. The requirement is being made due to the rising coronavirus cases in the state. Falwell has always been an opponent of the safety measures put in place in response to the pandemic. He even tried to keep his school open despite pressure from all sides.

Now Falwell has turned to bring up race in his fight with Gov. Ralph Northam. Falwell said in a tweet, “I was adamantly opposed to the mandate from @GovernorVA requiring citizens to wear face masks until I decided to design my own. If I am ordered to wear a mask, I will reluctantly comply, but only if this picture of Governor Blackface himself is on it!”

The racially insensitive comments earned Falwell instant backlash from other Twitter users. Falwell’s tweet even came with an offensive picture of Gov. Northam dressed in blackface. Northam came under tremendous fire when the picture of him in blackface first surfaced. He has apologized for the incident for its racism. Many Americans are letting Jerry Falwell know that his repurposing of the photo is just as racist.

In the eyes of many, this is a terrible time for such controversy with everything that is happening in the country. There is no doubt that Falwell has his supporters, but right now many Americans are not pleased.
