Jenna Ryan Compares Being Called ‘Insurrection Barbie’ to ‘Persecution of Jews in Germany’

[Writer’s disclosure: I was raised Jewish and identify with Judaism culturally, but am non-practicing]

Texas Realtor Jenna Ryan thought she wouldn’t do any time for her role in the January 6th insurrection. After all, she reasoned, she’s rich and white and blonde, and the former realtor who rented a private jet to take her from Texas to DC to commit sedition figured she’d get off the hook. When that didn’t happen, she put on an extra brave front and reported to prison just before Christmas, because that touch of sadness would be great for her eventual memoir.

Now Ryan is finding out what it’s like to be a pariah in the social media age. The only problem is, she’s comparing her plight to what six million Jews suffered during the Holocaust, a favorite MAGA trope that none of them care to learn is completely wrong.  Anti-Semitism has been on the rise in this country thanks to Donald Trump peeling back that very thin layer that separated proper society from its dregs. Enabled and emboldened, there’s no such thing as a MAGA who wants to go back to being politically correct, or at least self-aware enough to know when to stop saying all of the quiet parts out loud.

In an interview with NBC News just before she departed for prison, Jenna Ryan complained about the way she was being treated. While Ryan feigned regret for entering the Capitol, she still portrayed herself as a victim, going so far as to assert that the backlash she has received is akin to the experience of “the Jews in Germany,” saying, “They’re making fun of my skin color. They’re calling me an ‘insurrection Barbie,’” she whined.

But she didn’t just leave it there. Jenna brought all of the MAGA projection to her 15 minutes of fame. “They have no idea who I am as a person, what my beliefs are, what I’ve been through, who I am,” she complained. “They see me as a one-dimensional caricature. They don’t see me as a human. And so, that is the epitome of a scapegoat. Just like they did that to the Jews in Germany. Those were scapegoats. And I believe that people who are Caucasian are being turned into evil in front of the media.”

Of course, all of Twitter went GIRL NO. Not that Jenna will see the tweets, because she’s in prison where she belongs at the moment.
