James P. Hoffa, the long-time President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters ripped into Sean O'Brien, his predecessor, for failing to back Kamala Harris.
This week, the Teamsters Union shocked many by not backing Kamala Harris for President. They did not back Donald Trump either, the union simply announced that they would not be making an endorsement this year.
Of course, any large union is made up of Democrats, Republicans and Independents, but typically, Liberals are supportive of unions while Republicans fight against them. This made the decision of Sean O'Brien, the current Teamsters head, all that much more curious.
James P. Hoffa, the former head of the Teamsters, issued a blistering statement that read:
"This is a critical error and frankly, a failure of leadership by Sean O'Brien. This election is too important for our union not to do its duty. We must take a stand for working Americans. There is only one candidate in this race that has supported working families and unions throughout their career, and that is Vice President Kamala Harris."
Hoffa added, "In every case, we supported the candidate that demonstrated a proven track record of fighting for working Americans and unions."
The Union fired back in an angry statement that read like something Donald Trump would have written, "The Teamsters Union lost hundreds of thousands of members under Hoffa’s failed leadership. As we successfully build back that member density under Sean O’Brien, we will continue to support and respect all our members — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents."
