“It’s An Utter Scam” — House Republican Says January 6th “Objectors” Are Just “Grifting”

Political and legal experts have explained repeatedly that there is no realistic way for the election to be overturned in Donald Trump’s favor at this point. Why, then, are so many right-wing legislators promising they can still do it? One of their GOP colleagues explains: it’s an “utter scam,” he says, and they’re just grifting for profit.

A number of House Republicans (and some Representatives-Elect) have promised they’ll protest the January 6th certification of the Electoral College vote, which is scheduled to again cement the fact that Joe Biden was elected by the American people to be the 46th President of the United States. They’ve been looking for a senator to join them in objecting, to force deliberation, which they pretend could result in the two houses of Congress somehow overturning the will of the people and giving Trump another 4 years in power.
Republican Representative Adam Kinzinger, of Illinois, is speaking out publicly against this, saying that these legislators are misleading their constituents and doing it for the donations and support.
All this talk about Jan 6th from @realDonaldTrump and other congressional grifters is simply explained: they will raise money and gain followers by blaming everyone else knowing full well they can’t do anything. It’s sad, and an utter scam. #restoreourgop

At this point, no Senate Republicans have committed to offering an objection to the certification of the electoral vote, though several — including Kelly Loeffler and Rand Paul — have suggested that they would consider it, according to Newsweek. Senator-Elect Tommy Tuberville, of Alabama, has also suggested he might object.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has reportedly pressured GOP senators to stay out of the fight to overturn the election, out of concerns that doing so will affect the Georgia Senate runoffs on January 5, flipping the Senate and removing him from his powerful position.
