“Insurrectionist Attorney,” Others, Face Ethics Complaints As Advocacy Group Seeks Disbarment For ‘Big Lie’ Supporters

Jenna Ellis faces ethics complaint

An ethics complaint alleges that on the morning of January 6th, attorney William Calhoun posted on social media that he intended to storm the Capitol Building, specifically stating, “We’re going to get inside the Capitol before this ends.”

Citing this and other social media posts by the attorney, an advocacy group known as The 65 Project is calling for the State Bar of Georgia to investigate and impose appropriate discipline, regardless of whether Calhoun is convicted of the crimes he’s charged with.

He’s not the only one, either. According to Law & Crime, the project has a stated goal to file ethics complaints against 111 attorneys in 26 states for actions taken to aid Donald Trump in his efforts to discredit or overturn the 2020 election results.

The first round of ten ethics complaints submitted by The 65 Project includes attorneys like Jenna Ellis, who held press conferences and filed lawsuits to discredit the election, and Cleta Mitchell, who was a participant in Trump’s January phone call to pressure the Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, to ‘find’ more votes for Trump. They also include attorneys such as the aforementioned Calhoun, and “vexatious attorney Paul Davis” who the group allege participated in the events of January 6th (Davis has not been charged), as well as three who gathered and prepared paperwork to stand as electors for Donald Trump from the state of Georgia — while the legitimate electors prepared to cast their votes duly for Joe Biden.
