#IndictMattGaetz Trends As Congressman Pushes Conspiracy Theories

Matt Gaetz has been accused of sex crimes against a minor, and a lot of people are waiting to see if he’ll face consequences, especially as his confederate, Joel Greenberg, has reportedly agreed to cooperate with the investigation and hand over information about others involved.

However, rather than resign or otherwise lie low while the investigation moves forward, Gaetz is perhaps more in the public eye than ever, in the middle of a MAGA tour with Marjorie Taylor Greene, and very vocally pushing conspiracy theories about the FBI and other matters.

Gaetz might enjoy the spotlight, even when the publicity is negative, but it seems much of the public isn’t enjoying the constant stream of reminders that there has been no indictment or other outwardly visible development in his case, where he’s alleged to have transported a minor across state lines for the purpose of sex. They’re showing their frustration in a Twitter trend.

The hashtag #IndictMatt Gaetz hit a fever pitch, trending across Twitter (alongside criticism of another Florida Republican, Governor Ron DeSantis) with political cartoons, jokes and memes about Gaetz’ character, and calls for his arrest.

Gaetz has denied the allegations, maintaining that he is the victim of an extortion scheme, and appearing on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show where, as Vanity Fair reports, he threw out an extra allegation against himself that hadn’t previously made public, denying that he has been photographed with child prostitutes, despite there being no public knowledge of such an accusation at that time.
