Increasingly Unhinged Trump Compares Kentucky Derby Controversy to 2020 Election

Bored and largely ignored down in Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump tried to stay relevant by releasing a statement about the Kentucky Derby controversy.

Over the weekend, it was revealed that 2020 Derby Winner, Medina Spirit had performance enhancing drugs in its system during the race. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission moved fast following the positive test. The horse has been stripped of the win and trainer Bob Baffert has been suspended from entering any horses in races at Churchill Downs.

Trump decided to seize on the moment, insulting the horse and making the issue about himself. The former President said in a statement:

“So now even our Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit, is a junky. This is emblematic of what is happening to our Country. The whole world is laughing at us as we go to hell on our Borders, our fake Presidential Election, and everywhere else!”

The 45th president also tried to make a cancel culture issue out of the 2019 Derby. After the initial winner was disqualified for interfering with other horses, Trump tweeted, “The Kentuky Derby decision was not a good one. It was a rough and tumble race on a wet and sloppy track, actually, a beautiful thing to watch. Only in these days of political correctness could such an overturn occur. The best horse did NOT win the Kentucky Derby – not even close!”

While the GOP is backing Trump’s play to stay in power, these sorts of statements are growing increasingly pathetic. The Republican party is all in on a culture war.
