Hypocrite GOP State Attorneys General Threaten Joe Biden Over Executive Orders

Six states attorneys general sent a letter to President Joe Biden on Thursday warning him that they will challenge his use of executive actions, which have dominated his first ten days in office.

All of them are Republicans.

The letter begins:

Dear President Biden, one week ago you assumed the presidency of the United States of America, and took the oath of office. You swore to preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the United States of America. Today, we write to you in our capacity as State Attorneys General, regarding areas of vital importance to our States as you execute your job in the days and months ahead.

The letter proceeds to lecture Biden on the constitutional limits to his power and threatens to make his life miserable with lawsuits if he issues actions that GOP officials dislike.

“Any actions that might exceed their statutory authority, are inconsistent with constitutional tenets or place civil liberties at risk could trigger legal action by the states,” the signatories stated.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, along with Lynn Fitch (MS), Leslie Rutledge (AR), Todd Rokita (IN), Austin Knudsen (MT), and Ken Paxton (TX) all signed the letter.

Note that not a single one of them made any fuss over former President Donald Trump’s unprecedented flurry of executive orders, which totalled 220 in a single term.

On Friday morning, Morrisey, the cudgel’s leader, went on Fox and Friends and referred to Biden’s executive orders – most of which are reversals of Trump’s directives – as “deeply disturbing” and unconstitutional.

“What this president is becoming known for within one week is that he’s willing to go to all ends to use his executive authority to implement his ideas,” Morrisey crowed.

He continued by peppering in buzzwords that are sure to fire up his base.

“I’m deeply worried about that because of jobs, across so many states in America, what he’s doing to advance the Green New Deal, and I think this is just the beginning,” Morrisey whined. “We’re gonna begin to see him use this on major issues throughout his presidency. We wanted to set out the guideposts so he knows that if he takes steps that are inconsistent with the Constitution or the statute, we’re gonna step up, and we are that last line of defense. With the House and the Senate not in control of folks who are willing to stop the Green New Deal, it’s gonna rest on the Republican attorneys general to make sure that rational decision-making occurs.”

Where were these so-called defenders of democracy when Trump led a coup to overthrow the government and steal the election, again? Oh, right, cheering him on.

“Rational decision-making” and “Republican” have no business being in the same sentence together.

The hypocrisy – and chutzpah – is absolutely mind-numbing.
