Fox News has never been a legitimate news source, but more of an entertainment channel. The network even made this argument during a lawsuit against star personality Tucker Carlson. So when news stories emerge that make Conservative figures look bad, the “news” channel just ignores them. Fox recently ignored the wife of a Conservative Supreme Court Justice sending text messages about overturning a presidential election.
Fox was back to its old tricks when tapes showed that Kevin McCarthy wanted Donald Trump to resign following January 6th. Host Howard Kurtz argued on Sunday that the channel didn’t have to cover the news because it wasn’t a big story.
“It is so clear that he got caught lying. If you want to defend him…it’s a very hard job to manage a Republican caucus with 250 very disparate voices with Donald Trump hovering over you. There was a lot of emotions surrounding 1/6, but we should demand from our political leaders the basic obligation not to tell lies to the public, and the fact that he got caught red-handed should be a pretty significant event for him.”
The Fox host continued, “Is it a big story? We already knew McCarthy, who had publicly criticized the president at the time, later went to Mar-a-Lago and mended fences. But again, it comes back to denying what was already on tape.”
