Donald Trump regularly made it clear that he was happy to abuse the powers of the White House. After spending much of his business career in a courtroom, he was safe from the law while he was President.
It was revealed in February that Trump took sensitive documents from the White House down to Mar a Lago. And it has also been reported that the former President also accepted gifts from foreign sources without reporting them. The House Oversight Committee has recently announced that they would be looking into this.
Carolyn Maloney, the Chairwoman of the group, wrote:
“Public reporting indicates that President Trump accepted multiple gifts from foreign sources in 2020, yet these gifts do not appear on the Department of State’s public list as required. These revelations raise concerns about the potential for undue influence over former President Trump by foreign governments, which may have put the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States at risk.”
Back in April, the New York Times revealed that the State Department had been unable to track many of the gifts received by the Trump Administration in 2020.
