House Insurrection Caucus Demands Removal of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker

The House Freedom Caucus – comprised of nearly three dozen Republicans who voted to overturn the results of the 2020 election – wrote a letter to Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Friday demanding that he immediately hold a vote to oust Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.

The confederacy of insurrection-enabling lawmakers is upset because Pelosi axed Representatives Jim Banks (R-IN) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) from serving on what was supposed to be a bipartisan Select Committee to investigate the siege on the United States Capitol on January 6th. In response, McCarthy yanked all five Republicans that were nominated, leaving only those whom Pelosi picked herself.

“Refusing to seat Rep Jim Jordan & Rep Jim Banks on the Select Committee to Investigate Jan 6th is intolerable House Freedom Caucus is calling on GOP leader to file and bring up a privileged motion to vacate the chair and end Speaker Pelosi’s authoritarian reign,” the conservative cartel tweeted on Friday morning.

“We, the House Freedom Caucus, respectfully request that you pursue the authorization of the House Republican Conference, pursuant to Conference rules, to file and bring up a privileged motion by July 31, 2021, to vacate the chair and end Nancy Pelosi’s authoritarian reign as Speaker of the House,” the letter reads.

“Speaker Pelosi’s tenure is destroying the House of Representatives and our ability to faithfully represent the people we are here to serve,” it continues. “Speaker Pelosi has championed unconstitutional changes like allowing proxy voting and insulting security measures like metal detectors for Members coming to the floor to vote.”

Pelosi had metal detectors installed after several GOP lawmakers tried to bring guns into the House chamber. Further, for Republicans to accuse anyone of acting unconstitutionally after they encouraged former President Donald Trump’s supporters to overthrow the federal government is laughable and pathetic.

In their letter, the House Freedom Caucus also wrote that Pelosi’s rejection of Banks and Jordan demonstrates that she “has no interest in representative democracy,” which coming from the party of voter suppression is the absolute pinnacle of political hypocrisy.

Both men were part of the effort by House Republicans to block the certification of President Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory in the 2020 presidential election.
