Hero Pilot Chelsey ‘Sully’ Sullenberger Thrashes Donald Trump’s ‘Lethal Lies and Incompetence’ in New Ad: ‘Vote. Him. Out.’

“Miracle on the Hudson” pilot Chelsey ‘Sully’ Sullenberger starred in a new ad sponsored by VoteVets and the Lincoln Project on Tuesday, in which he encouraged voters to resoundingly reject President Donald Trump’s “lethal lies and incompetence.”

The $200,000 ad buy will be broadcast on national cable ahead of tonight’s first presidential debate between Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, the Lincoln Project said in a press release.

“Leadership is not just about sitting in a pilot’s seat. It’s about knowing what you’re doing, and taking responsibility for it, being prepared, ready and able to handle anything that might come your way,” Sully said in the ad. “I’ve been flying over this country for fifty-three years – fifty-three years of flights you’ve never heard about, and one that you’ve heard everything about.”

Sully famously landed US Airways flight 1579 on the Hudson River in 2009 when the plane’s engines stalled after it struck a flock of seagulls. All 155 people on board survived and were rescued without suffering any major injuries.

“My whole life prepared me for that moment. From my father, a Naval officer in World War II, I learned the awesome responsibility of command. From my service as an Air Force officer and a fighter pilot, I knew that serving a cause greater than one’s self is the highest calling,” Sully continued, “and its in that highest calling of leadership that Donald Trump has failed us so miserably.”

Sully’s message to voters is simple: we have been called to duty, and this is our moment. Trump’s mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 200,000 Americans and is getting worse, is the crux of his plea.

“Now, it’s up to us to overcome his attacks on our very democracy – knowing nearly a quarter-million Americans won’t have a voice – casualties of his lethal lies and incompetence. Eleven years ago, I was called to my moment,” the former Air Force fighter pilot said. “Now, we are all called to this moment. When you look down at our beautiful, boundless country, you don’t see political divisions. It reminds us of who we are and what we can be.”

The power in the United States lies with the people, and Trump must go, he concluded.

“We are in control of this nation’s destiny,” Sully said. “All we have to do is: Vote. Him. Out.”
