“He Likes Testing Missiles” Trump Not Worried About Kim Jong Un

Since he took over leadership of North Korea in 2011, Kim Jong-un has frequently tested dangerous weaponry. This behavior continued in August as the Supreme Leader conducted 7 ballistic missile tests over the course of the month.

Donald Trump, who has developed a strong relationship with Kim, seems unfazed by the recent tests. He told reporters that the tests aren’t a big deal and that the dictator just enjoys testing missiles.

The President was asked about the recent tests while in France for the G-7 conference. He said of Kim, “He likes testing missiles.”

North Korea has been barred from testing ballistic missiles by a number of UN resolutions. Trump did not mention this while giving his answer. The President has noted in the past that North Korean testing doesn’t bother him as the missiles don’t have the capability to reach the US.

Trump continued, “I think that we have a very good relationship. We’ll see what happens. That could always change, but we’ll see what happens. Kim Jong un has been, you know, pretty straight with me, I think, and we are going to see what’s going on, what’s happening. He likes testing missiles. But we never restricted short range missiles. We’ll see what happens. Many nations test those missiles. We tested a very big one the other day as you probably noticed.”

Obviously, the President has changed his tune on Kim and his missile capabilities. Trump said in September of 2017, “The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime. The United States is ready, willing and able, but hopefully, this will not be necessary.”
