“He Can No Longer Do The Job” Donald Trump Calls for McConnell to be Removed as Minority Leader
Donald Trump has seemingly begun his 2024 campaign for president already. He already had a rally in Ohio last week and is planning on holding more this weekend. One in Alabama was cancelled by the city of Mobile. Another, in Florida, is full steam ahead despite a request from Ron DeSantis to cancel it.
And following a Wednesday press event with Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Trump did an interview with Sean Hannity. The former president went over his grievance laden greatest hits and also blasted current Republicans in office. Trump called for Mitch McConnell to be removed from leadership, saying that he can’t do the job anymore.
McConnell, of course, drew the ire of the 45th president by refusing to go along with his election lies. And while the senate minority leader would like to move on without Trump, the former president isn’t going to make that so easy.
Hannity asked about Republicans who have been willing to negotiate with Biden. “I call them weak Republicans,” the former president responded. “They walk into the White House — I’ve been watching for four weeks now — they walk in, they meet Biden, he doesn’t know what the hell’s happening. He’s sitting, and they’re talking about infrastructure. And finally, they walk out, they have a deal, and the deal is a terrible deal.”
Trump then moved onto McConnell saying, “Well, we need better leadership at the Senate level. You need better leadership. You need somebody better than Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell can no longer do the job.”
