Groom Asks Dad to Rise, Shares 'Intimate' Text Messages with Bride

The news broke Marcus' heart. After everything they'd gone through, he had just discovered the unthinkable. It would not be easy for him, but he would get revenge.

There was an ace up his sleeve that he would pull out at the right time. Marcus only had to smile and read his vows. Everything was in place.

Everything was going south. Marcus Smith's most significant moment was turned into a living nightmare on what was supposed to be his happiest day. Having just discovered everything, he wished it was just a dream and that he would wake up at any moment.

There was no dream about it. Suddenly, everything he had known had fallen apart in front of him.

Marcus knew he had met his soul mate as soon as he met Maggie. A mutual friend's birthday party put them in touch, and Marcus was immediately smitten.

Maggie and Marcus were inseparable at that point, and Marcus had already planned to propose marriage to her after only three months together.

The only thing Marcus could have done differently would have been to listen to his friends. Having done that, he wouldn't have to face all his family and friends in public.

The proposal finally came after Marcus had been dating for four months. At a romantic dinner, he proposed to her on one knee. The proposal was immediately accepted by Maggie, who was ecstatic.

The thought of a beautiful woman marrying an ordinary guy like him seemed impossible to Marcus. There was no doubt in his mind that he had hit the jackpot.

Maggie's behavior and demeanor changed significantly in the months after they started planning the wedding.

In the end, Marcus had to do most of the planning alone since she seemed increasingly distant. His mind could not comprehend what had possessed her. As far as he was concerned, she was nervous. The truth, however, would be shocking to him.

The change occurred around the same time that Marcus introduced Maggie to his family. It wasn't as welcoming as he had hoped his family would be towards his engagement.

Michael, his brother, encouraged him to reconsider because Maggie did not seem like a "settling down" type. This made Marcus sad. The only thing that mattered to him was that his family was happy for him.

During the awkward family meet-and-greet, Maggie behaved distantly, and her husband thought that she was rethinking the idea of getting married.

Having been perturbed by the situation, he spoke with her about the matter. Is everything okay with you, Mags? You've been distant from me these past few weeks," he asked, visibly concerned for her.

In response, Maggie just shrugged and replied, "I'm fine. Planning the wedding has just been a lot of work for me. I'm exhausted. Taking a break is all I need."

Since Marcus was responsible for planning everything, he did not understand why she would need a break. Did she have something to hide from him? His suspicions increased at that point. 

It became clear that Maggie's behavior had become even more worrying. Her excuses for not attending meetings with the florist and venue were endless, and she was always out partying.

He was brokenhearted and felt like she no longer wanted to be with him. The rest of the story wouldn't take Marcus long to learn.

However, he was determined to make her change her mind. He would organize a big family get-together so that everyone could get to know Maggie and, hopefully, accept her into their family.

He wanted them to see what he saw. She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, and she was willing to open her heart to them if she was just given the chance.

The day of the big get-together had finally arrived, and Marcus couldn’t help but be very nervous about the whole thing. He wondered if he had done the right thing by organizing it.

Everything depended on this day, and he hoped that it would go well for all of them as the wedding date was right around the corner.

But to his surprise, the day turned out really well. His family welcomed Maggie, and everyone took the time to get to know her better. Marcus was really touched, and he could see that they were all making an effort for his sake.

Even his father, who was the biggest skeptic of all, engaged with Maggie, and they were seen chatting up a storm all day long.

They enjoyed a great meal together, and as always, Maggie was the life and soul of the party. She walked around the table, conversing with everyone and making jokes with whoever she could.

Marcus knew that he had chosen well. However, there was something that Maggie was hiding behind her toothy grin and overly friendly demeanor. Marcus was about to find out.

As he walked through the living room, he heard a phone buzzing uncontrollably on the coffee table. He decided to have a look to see whose it was so that he could give it to the person.

But he got the surprise of his life. There was a pop-up message on the screen. It read: “Can’t we just leave this party and go somewhere more private? I miss you, baby.”

Marcus couldn’t see who the phone belonged to, but the messages came from someone nicknamed “sweetheart,” and it seemed like someone wanted to get away from the party to have some alone time. He chuckled and wondered who it could be.

Then, more messages came in. “Greg, when can we be together? I’m so sick of us having to hide how we feel. This has been going on for months. I can’t take it anymore.”

Marcus’ heart nearly stopped when he realized who the phone belonged to. It was his own father, Greg. And to Marcus, it looked like his father was having an affair. He was cheating on his mother.

Marcus could barely see past the tears in his eyes as he opened the screenshots on his cell phone. Just seeing the texts was enough to make him feel sick to his stomach. They deserved to get humiliated in front of everyone they knew. 

But before Marcus could read it all out loud, his eyes flicked up to the woman he loved the most in the world. His mother sat beside his father, worry beaming behind her blue eyes. 

That’s when he realized that the truth would not only hurt him, it would destroy his mother. The man she had loved for the past three decades had betrayed her in the worst way possible. 

He looked at his mother with sad eyes, trying to apologize in advance for what she was about to hear. His mother had always loved Maggie. She thought she was the perfect fit for her son.

Suddenly, Greg knew what his son was getting at. Tears burned behind his eyes as he looked up at his son. He had betrayed his son and wife in such a terrible way, and now, the truth was coming out. 

“I would like to read one of the texts that I found on my father’s phone that day,” Marcus announced to the crowd. His mother’s shoulders tense as she prepared herself for the terrible news. 

Marcus thought he had the upper hand. He was about to expose his father’s dirty secret to everyone in the room. But if his father was really capable of cheating, he might have been capable of other things no one expected.

Greg had never shown his temper to Marcus before, but now that he was backed up against a wall, things were going to end in a disturbing conflict.

“Can we discuss this in private,” He told Marcus, begging him. But his son had already made up his mind. He wanted to make sure that he understood the repercussions of what he had done.

He held a metal case in his hand, but even though Marcus immediately recognized it, not many other people understood what it was.

Greg opened up the metal case and looked at the contents within. He sighed and said, “You’re making me do this. I don’t care if I’m not supposed to.” He then pulled out a long cylindrical object and put it to his lips.

He then pulled out a lighter from his pocket and lit the cigarette in his mouth. Pungent smoke filled the enclosed space. No one was impressed.

With that, Greg sat back down and puffed a few more times. “Well, carry on ruining my life.” He said with a sarcastic grin. Marcus wouldn’t let him manipulate him. He was going to expose him no matter what he tried.

Greg’s character seemed far more sinister after the altercation with his son. Now, he would show them the true nature of his father.

He looked down at his phone once again, a fresh set of tears welling up behind his eyes. Then, he began reading out loud.

Greg knew that the life he knew was now over. He took the foul smelling cigarette and dropped it in his glass - not having the thirst to drink anymore. He wouldn’t even look at Marcus or his mother. Now that he had been outed, he changed drastically.

It was as if he had been a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He wouldn’t even acknowledge his wife who had stood by him for decades.

The crowd was in shock, and Marcus could see his mother’s eyes well up in tears. “I’m sorry, Mom. I had to do it,” He said in a shaky voice. He was an emotional mess at this point. But he hadn’t revealed the full story just yet. 

“But that’s not all,” He said. Maggie stood beside him, his face twisted in horror. She knew what was coming next. 

Greg seemed to realize what Marcus was about to do next. He looked away from his feet and told his son that enough was enough. But it was in a much weaker voice than earlier. He had been defeated and couldn’t stop him from finishing it.

“Now for the second betrayal and grand reveal, everyone!” He said with a sarcastic smile. He was about to say something that hurt, but it had to be aired out.

I bet you’re all wondering who sent my father this text. My father’s “sweetheart” is my soon-to-be ex-fiance standing right in front of me,” He said before turning to Maggie.

The second he turned to face the woman he had once loved, tears began pouring down her face. He shook his head as he looked down at her. “How could you’ve done this to me, Maggie?”

She tried to explain herself, but Marcus didn’t care to listen to her explanation. The damage was done, and nothing she said could justify her actions. She and Greg had ruined their family.

“You have been cheating on me with my father. I never want to see you again. Leave, right now,” He muttered with angry eyes. Maggie’s face turned beet red, and she stormed off in a huff. Marcus was left heartbroken at the altar.

The wedding venue was filled with tension and disbelief. Marcus' mother sobbed uncontrollably, and his father, Greg, hung his head in shame, unable to meet anyone's gaze.
