While the organization is much less powerful than it was even 5 years ago, the NRA still looms large in American politics. Republicans regularly brag about the grades they receive from the pro-gun association.
On Tuesday, the United States experienced an unbelievably tragic incident where 14 elementary students and a teacher were killed in Uvalde, Texas. Incidentally, a number of Texas’ most prominent Republicans are slated to speak at an NRA convention this weekend.
Rebekah Entraigo Fernandez, from Inequality.org tweeted on Tuesday, “Greg Abbott is slated to speak at the NRA convention in Houston *this Friday* alongside Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, Dan Crenshaw, and Trump.”

It would seem like political suicide for any of the men to keep their speaking engagement, none of them are necessarily self-aware.
This is a still-developing situation with more to come.
