Over this weekend, there have been talks that House Republicans are preparing to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. In fact it’s been reported that Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) actually had impeachment documents on the floor of the house as Rosenstein announced the latest indictments in Mueller’s Russian probe on Friday. Some reports say that impeachment documents for Rod Rosenstein could officially be filed as early as today.
With all of this said, however, this appears to be very unlikely after Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) came out and said that he would not support the impeachment of Rosenstein.
“Impeach him for what?” Gowdy questioned on CBS’s “Face the Nation“. “I’ve had my differences with Rod Rosenstein. I talk to him quite often privately, which again is a lot more constructive than the public hearings we have.”
What Gowdy did go on and say though, is that President Trump could, very easily, fire Rosenstein.
“He’s a Trump appointee. So is Jeff Sessions. So is Chris Wray. If President Trump is dissatisfied with Rod Rosenstein, he can fire him with a tweet.”
It wouldn’t be the first time that Trump fired someone with a tweet, if he does in fact go this route. You may recall that President Trump fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson via Twitter just four months ago.
