Gov. Whitmer Sends Her SNL Portrayer s Beer Care Package

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is having a moment. Elected in 2019, the lawmaker has had to combat both Donald Trump as well as some of her own constituents in order to keep her state socially distanced.

Trump has meddled in the state’s politics by calling for Michigan to liberate itself and has referred to Whitmer as “that woman.” Saturday Night Live lampooned the relationship between Whitmer and Trump last week. This week the Michigan Governor sent the actress who played her, Cecily Strong, a beer based care package.

While portraying the lawmaker last week, Strong said, “Now, like you, I have heard the rumors that I’m on the short list to be Joe Biden’s vice president, the V.P.’s veep, because if it’s going to be a woman, it might as well be that woman.”

Strong continued, “And to anyone that stands in the way of the health and safety of my constituents, I”ll remind you that Michigan is the Mitten, right, and this, this is where I live.”

While Whitmer was flattered by the portrayal, she wanted to make sure that America knew she drank Michigan beer and not Canadian beer. So she sent Strong a care package of her favorites.

Strong thanked the Governor on Instagram, writing, “Got a giant and gorgeous Michigan care package sent to New York courtesy of that super cool woman from Michigan. Thank you @gewhitmer !!! Honestly, this blew me away!”
