GOP Sen. Murkowski: I Thought Mattis’ Trump Comments Were True and Honest
There have been plenty of former Republican administration members who were willing to speak out against Donald Trump. But James Mattis’ comments on the President were different. Mattis was a major part of Trump’s team, serving at his Defense Secretary from 2017 to 2019.
Mattis ripped his former boss for his 3 years of dividing the country. For the most part, Republicans have been silent on the comments from the former General. Republican senator Lisa Murkowski, in a rebuke to Trump, said that the comments from Mattis were true and honest.
GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski breaks with Senate GOP and “was glad that Gen. Mattis spoke out.”
Asked if she agrees with Mattis, Murkowski said: “Yes I do,” she told me.

Murkowski called Mattis’ words, “true and honest and necessary and overdue.” She continued:
“When I saw Gen. Mattis’ comments yesterday I felt like perhaps we are getting to a point where we can be more honest with the concerns that we might hold internally and have the courage of our own convictions to speak up. And so I’m working as one individual to form the right words, knowing that these words really matter so I appreciate General Mattis’ comments.”
The Alaska senator was also asked about her vote to acquit Trump from impeachment. She told reporters, “I am struggling with it. I have struggled with it for a long time.”
Trump sycophant and South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham didn’t feel the same way. He said of Mattis, “I admire his service to the nation. But the one thing I would tell General Mattis is that you don’t quite understand that from the time President Trump wakes up until he goes to bed there’s an effort to destroy his presidency.”
