When Donald Trump was first elected President, Paul Ryan was the Speaker of the House. The Wisconsin Republican didn't seem to have any interest in working with the 45th President and he decided to not run for reelection during the 2018 election season.
Even during Trump's presidency, Ryan was outspoken about his concerns with the man. Now a consultant, the former Speaker recently appeared on Neil Cavuto's Fox News show and discussed Trump's fitness for office.
Ryan told Cavuto, "I voted for him in 2016, hoping that there was gonna be a different kind of person in office. And I do think character is a really important issue. If you put yourself above the Constitution as he has done that shows you’re unfit for office."
Obviously, those lawmakers who have devoted their lives to Donald Trump were not happy about he former Speaker's words. When Texas lawmaker Troy Nehls was asked about he comments, he did not hold back, telling Manu Raju:
"Paul Ryan you’re a piece of garbage. You’re a piece of garbage and we should kick you out of the party. Don’t go spouting your mouth off and saying that you’re a conservative. You’re spitting in the face of the leader of our party. I mean grow up a little bit."
The Republicans are clearly the party of Trump and anyone who dissents will be attacked. Ryan has never seemed to care about that, though.
