GOP Gov. Jim Justice Slams Anti-Vaxxers For Participating in “Death Lottery”

Some states are having an easier time getting their residents vaccinated than others. Not surprisingly, the areas having the hardest time have more Republicans than Democrats. Governors in some of those states have taken to offering perks for people who choose to get their shot.

Leading that charge is West Virginia’s Jim Justice. The Republican has been outspoken about the importance of vaccinations. His state even held a lottery where winners could receive custom hunting rifles. During a Sunday interview with ABC, Justice slammed people who have chosen to not get inoculated.

Host Martha Raddatz asked about data that showed that Conservatives are much less likely to get vaccinated. Justice replied, “There’s some truth to that. Because the red states probably have a lot of people that, you know, are very, very conservative in their thinking and they think, ‘Well, I don’t have to do that.'”

The governor continued:

“But they’re not thinking right. When it really boils right down to it, they’re in a lottery to themselves. You know, we have a lottery that basically says, if you’re vaccinated, we’re going to give you stuff. But you’ve got another lottery going on and it’s the death lottery.”
