Good Riddance: Today Was Devin Nunes’ Last Day as a Member of Congress

When Donald Trump first took office, he found a close ally in Devin Nunes. The California Congressman used his spot in the House Intelligence Committee to give Trump information on the Russia investigation. Trump later paid Nunes back by awarding him the Medal of Freedom.

The former president is continuing to repay the California Republican with a job. Despite a complete lack of experience, Nunes will now head the Trump Media & Technology Group. The GOP lawmaker officially resigned from Congress on Monday.

Nunes wrote in a letter, “I write to inform you that I have notified California Gov. Gavin Newsom of my resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives effective today at 11:59 p.m. It has been the honor of my life to represent the people of California’s San Joaquin Valley for the last 19 years. Please let me know how I can be of help during this transition.”

Governor Newsom will soon hold a special election to fill the vacated seat until the 2023 election.
