Since the beginning of the Trump impeachment inquiry, the President’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani has been at the center. The former New York City mayor had campaigned the Ukrainian government to open a corruption investigation into Hunter Biden.
With so much heat around him, some Republican insiders thing that Giuliani may be made to be a fall guy. The lawyer told the Guardian that he has insurance against that happening. Giuliani’s lawyer later stated that his client was joking.
While speaking with him on the phone The Guardian’s Stephanie Kirchgaessner asked Giuliani if he’s worried Trump could make him a scapegoat.
“I’m not, but I do have very, very good insurance, so if he does, all my hospital bills will be paid,” the former NYC mayor explained.
Giuliani’s lawyer, Robert Costello, was sitting next to him during the interview. He piped in, “he’s joking.”
The President’s lawyer has long said that he is acting in his his client and the country’s best interests. He tweeted in October, “With all the Fake News let me make it clear that everything I did was to discover evidence to defend my client against false charges. Dems would be horrified by the attacks on me, if my client was a terrorist. But they don’t believe Donald Trump has rights. Justice will prevail.”
Still there are some Republicans that are ready to paint the lawyer as someone who is acting on his own accord. A week ago, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) said, “There are a whole lot of things that he does that he doesn’t apprise anybody of.”
