Georgia GOP Strategist: Trump Expected Brian Kemp to Cheat for Him
Donald Trump has been in the throes of a meltdown over the last 6 weeks. Not only did he lose the election, he has no way to change the result. Not that he hasn’t tried. The president has lobbied governors, state representatives and electors to overturn the election for him.
Many of the people Trump has talked to have at least been willing to listen to his plan. One that hasn’t paid the proper fealty to the president is Brian Kemp. Trump has been ripping the Georgia governor for weeks. A Republican strategist says that the main reason for Trump’s anger is that he expected Kemp to cheat for him in Georgia.
In an interview with the Washington Post, GOP strategist Jordan Fuchs said, “Republicans fell into a trap by expecting Brad Raffensperger and Brian Kemp to cheat for them. The Democrats only have one, singular turnout model, and that’s the argument of voter suppression. They say it in their litigation — it’s the number one poll-tested message they have. This has fed into the hands of Democrats.”
The Post piece also notes that Trump feels that Kemp doesn’t pay him the proper respect. The Georgia governor, though, has decided that the best way to deal with the president is to ignore him.
Trump kept up the attack on Kemp during a midnight tweet storm. “What a fool Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia is,” he tweeted. “Could have been so easy, but now we have to do it the hard way. Demand this clown call a Special Session and open up signature verification, NOW. Otherwise, could be a bad day for two GREAT Senators on January 5th.”
