George Conway, a conservative lawyer who is the husband to Kellyanne Conway, the White House counsel to President Donald Trump, has always done his best to criticize the president without involving his wife’s work in a direct way.
On Monday, that changed in a noticeable way.
Kellyanne sent out a tweet on Monday that commented on a video of Joe Biden, a Democrat vying to become his party’s nominee to challenge Trump during the 2020 general election. “We need Ukraine’s help to defeat THIS guy?” Kellyanne wrote in her social media posting, which highlighted some quirky comments Biden had made about his leg hair in a pool.
George responded directly to his wife’s tweet. “Your boss apparently thought so,” he said.

George Conway’s tweet was in reference to Trump’s alleged attempts to coerce Ukraine’s head-of-state, President Volodymyr Zelensky, to initiate investigations against Biden and his son, Hunter, which would have benefited Trump in a seemingly political way. The allegations against Trump have prompted an impeachment inquiry, which is now heading to the House Judiciary Committee for considerations over whether articles of impeachment are warranted against the U.S. president.
Until Monday, George Conway had never made a direct comment against Trump toward something his wife had said on social media or in recorded interviews, per reporting from Business Insider.
Nevertheless, George Conway has been a vociferous critic of the current commander-in-chief, even writing a recent op-ed against Trump in which he stated that the president’s behavior had made it “impossible for him to carry out the duties of the presidency in the way the Constitution requires.”
As of press time, Kellyanne Conway has not yet responded to her husband’s criticism.
