George Clooney Lauds President for Dropping Out: Biden Gets All the Credit

George Clooney, who was part of the movement to ask Joe Biden to step down from the 2024 presidential race, lauded the President for his decision this week.

Just a few weeks before his debate with Donald Trump, Clooney held a star-studded fundraiser for Biden. But once Biden had significant struggles during the event, Clooney published a piece in the New York Times calling on Biden to drop out.

The op-ed read in part, "I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced. But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can."

Biden eventually took the advice of Clooney and many others and dropped out. Kamala Harris became the new nominee and turned the polls on their head with her now looking like the clear leader. When asked about how everything turned out at the Venice Film Festival, Clooney responded

"The person who should be applauded is the President who did the most selfless thing that anybody has done since George Washington. All of the machinations that got us there, none of that’s going to be remembered, and it shouldn’t be. What should be remembered is the selfless act of someone who did the hardest thing to do. You know we’ve seen it all around the world, and for someone to say, I think there’s a better way forward, he gets all the credit, and that’s really the truth."
