Garth Brooks Attacked For Inauguration Participation, Unity Efforts
Garth Brooks is calling for unity, but many country music fans just aren’t having it. Brooks will be performing at Joe Biden’s Presidential inauguration later this week, and he’s being trashed for it on social media.
As Billboard reported at the time, Brooks skipped Donald Trump’s inauguration in 2017, saying that he had to confirm some other scheduling matters regarding tour dates and wasn’t able to commit at the time.
Now, however, he has agreed to perform at Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday. HuffPost reports that Brooks has explained it’s not a political statement or an endorsement of a candidate — he just wants to be a part of inviting the country to unity.
However, on his social media accounts, the singer is facing angry attacks — people who claim to be former fans say they’re destroying their CDs, and that they will no longer support Brooks’ music.
The complaints center predominantly around the same misinformation and disinformation that characterized the entire election and aftermath — commenters are claiming, still, that Joe Biden did not win the election fairly, despite the continued failure of Trump’s legal team to present any evidence whatsoever otherwise, and several repeat the slanderous claim that Biden is implicated in pedophilia or other sexual misconduct.
Brooks, for his part, doesn’t seem to be taking the bait — he hasn’t responded to the attacks, and it’s unlikely that his brand or financial status will suffer significantly for the anger of some of Trump’s most vocal fans.
