Fox News: Trump Too Ignorant To Make Racist Native American Taunt Against Warren

Fox News’ pundit Brit Hume suggested an excuse for President Trump’s reference to Native American genocide: he’s too ignorant of history to know what he was saying.

“Yes, because Trump is noted for his knowledge of 19th century American history vis a vis the native population. Jeez,” Brit Hume wrote on Twitter Sunday.

Hume was responding to Trump’s tweet in which he not only referred to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) as “Pocahantas,” but he appeared to allude to the infamous Trail of Tears and death in which thousands of Native Americans were forced to move from Southeastern US tribal lands to territories west of the Mississippi River.

“Today Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to by me as Pocahontas, joined the race for President. Will she run as our first Native American presidential candidate, or has she decided that after 32 years, this is not playing so well anymore? See you on the campaign TRAIL, Liz!” Trump wrote in a Twitter message on Saturday.

Trump’s tweets against Native Americans, in regard to Warren, are frequent enough to suggest that he is far from ignorant when it comes to his racist taunts. The president has praised Andrew Jackson, who ordered the Trail of Tears, on many occasions. Trump also has a portrait of Jackson in the Oval Office and traveled to Tennessee last Wednesday to visit the grave of Andrew Jackson.

A few weeks ago, Trump referenced the Wounded Knee Massacre in reference to Warren.

“@brithume is saying that Trump isn’t known for his knowledge of 19th century history and that he couldn’t possibly be referencing the trail of tears in this first tweet but just a couple weeks ago he tweeted about Wounded Knee where hundreds of native Americans were massacred,” Yashar Ali wrote in a Twitter message.

Ali was referencing Trump’s attack on a campaign video Warren appeared in. The president said in a Twitter message that she should have filmed it “from Bighorn or Wounded Knee instead of her kitchen, with her husband dressed in full Indian garb.”
