Fox News Thrashes Mike Pence Over His “ISIS Being Defeated” Remarks
The situation in Syria took an ugly turn this morning when four US troops died following a deadly attack by ISIS. Notwithstanding, Vice President Pence echoed the false line made by President Trump that ISIS has been defeated right as it was carrying out the attacks on US Servicemembers.
We’re bringing our troops home, the Caliphate has crumbled and ISIS has been defeated, Pence declared. Now we’ll stay in the region and we’ll stay and fight to make sure that ISIS does not rear its ugly head again.
Fox News anchor Bret Baier thrashed Pence and criticized President Donald Trump for putting the remaining service members harms way by publicly declaring a withdrawal, then walking back the timing.
There’s a lot of anxious families. There’s only a 2,000 person deployment there in Syria so a lot of families are waiting to hear, which is a terrible moment, Baier said. The Vice President, unfortunately for him, delivering that speech this morning. The process by which that was announced came under attack by Democrats and Republicans Baier continued. And I think that the policy is on hold.
Pence’s comments are especially alarming when you consider the years of right-wing ire that both President Obama and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton faced over the death of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya. Blindly standing by Trump and saying we have won in Syria as the killing of our soldiers occurs at the same time appears to be another reminder of why James Mattis left his role as Secretary of Defense.
