The GOP and Donald Trump tried as hard as they could to prevent people from voting in 2020. It didn’t matter in the end, as Joe Biden handily defeated the former president. The actions of 2020, though, laid the groundwork for how Republicans will behave going forward.
In a recent column for The Hill, Juan Williams laid out how the GOP will try to steal elections in the future. The Fox News contributor laid out the party’s 3 step plan.
Step 1 was to ignore the 1/6 insurrection and shoot down an attempts to investigate the matter. Williams writes, “Twist the arms of the honest Republicans left on Capitol Hill by scaring them with previews of the commission’s probable findings and the damage those stories could do to the party’s efforts to regain control of the House, Senate and White House.”
For step two Williams notes that the party plans to, “change election laws in states with GOP majority legislatures. New laws in Georgia, for example, take power away from independent election boards and the secretary of state to certify election results.”
As for the 3rd step, the Fox contributors claims that the GOP will, “suppress the votes of people who are unlikely to back Republicans: young people, college-educated whites, poor people, union members, working women, Blacks, Latinos and Asians.”
