Fox News Host Mocks Joe Biden For Wearing Mask While in Public

The CDC has been clear that wearing masks can help prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19. There is no debate about that. Some on the right, however, have turned the idea into a culture war. North Dakota’s Republican Governor, Doug Burgum, recently pleaded with his constituents to ignore these calls.

Brit Hume, though, like many others on Fox News has likened the wearing a face covering to a lack of masculinity. The Fox host today mocked Joe Biden for donning a mask while out in public. The reaction to Hume’s comments were swift and severe.

Hume shared a picture of Biden, writing, “This might help explain why Trump doesn’t like to wear a mask in public. Biden today.”

Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz ripped Hume over the comments, replying, “Yeah I don’t get it on top of the substantive part – that a leader should demonstrate behavior that will save lives and enable the economy to recover more quickly, he also looks kinda solid it seems to me.”

Rolling Stone’s Jamil Smith also weighed in, posting, “He looks like someone who doesn’t want to catch or spread the lethal disease that is still classified as a pandemic and for which there is no cure. Machismo, sadly, does not ward it off.”

The Daily Beast’s Molly Jong-Fast might have had the most prescient point. “I mean it’s not like there’s a pandemic raging and killing Americans,” she wrote. “It’s not about looking good, it’s about setting a good example which used to be something presidents did.”
