Former Republican Political Strategist Warns GOP Will Try To Disrupt & Obstruct January 6th Hearings

Rick Wilson, former Republican, political strategist, and Lincoln Project founder, is no stranger to how the GOP works. He knows what their strategies are, and how to counter them — from experience. Throughout Donald Trump’s second presidential campaign, Wilson and his team used this knowledge to produce ads that would counter the messages of Trumpism, all with a goal to end the former president’s reign, and the long-term effects.

Now, he’s warning that the January 6th Committee’s 6 planned public hearings won’t be enough, because Republicans will fight to counter their message and keep them from successfully conveying just how dangerous Donald Trump and his cronies are.

Sharing an article from The Guardian about the hearing schedule (the six hearings will be held throughout June, with the first televised at 8pm on June 8th; the next four at 10am on the 13th, 15th, 16th and 21st, and the last at 8pm on June 23rd), Wilson asked, “Are. You. F[***]ing. Kidding. Me?”

He said that if these hearings were being held by Republicans they’d be never-ending, but with such a limited number (and only a few hours each) it will be far too easy for witnesses to dodge questions, refuse to answer, and drag things out, while other Republicans stage a spectacle to distract from the proceedings.

Unless there are serious consequences for everyone involved, Wilson says, this failed coup becomes merely “a training exercise.”

What’s more, if (Wilson says “when”) Republicans take over Congress after the November elections, they plan to use similar hearings to persecute everyone they hate, from Hunter Biden to antifa, and between now and then is the only opportunity to take meaningful action on the failed insurrection.

Of course, the Justice Department is also working on the case separately, and they’ve recently requested records from the January 6th Committee, raising hopes that they could soon take further public action.

In the meantime, though, it’s fair to recognize that a dozen hours or so of public testimony isn’t much, in light of everything that went down behind the scenes leading up to January 6th, and if Wilson is right, we can expect those hours to be an uphill struggle through rampant interference.
