Former Navy Seal Who Says He Killed Bin Laden Isn’t Happy With Donald Trump’s New Conspiracy Theory
President Donald Trump is now sharing a conspiracy theory that claims the death of Osama Bin Laden was faked, and that President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden covered it up and had members of Seal Team Six killed. The Navy Seal who has publicly taken credit for killing Bin Laden, and who has expressed public support for Trump, doesn’t appear to be happy with this.

First, a very brief background on the conspiracy theory: it’s a completely baseless and unsupported claim that Obama had Bin Laden replaced with a body double, and the real Bin Laden hidden in Iran. Then, says a ‘whistleblower’ who offers zero evidence, Obama and Biden were forced to cover up this action, and it resulted in the death of Seal Team Six members.
Trump has retweeted these claims, without adding any input of his own, merely amplifying them to his base and Twitter following.
Robert O’Neill, who has come forward to say he’s the Seal who shot Bin Laden, and who has publicly supported Trump and right-wing politics, was apparently not happy with Trump’s push of this conspiracy. “We were given the order by President Obama. It was not a body double. Thank you Mr. President.” he tweeted.
Very brave men said goodby to their kids to go kill Osama bin Laden. We were given the order by President Obama. It was not a body double. Thank you Mr. President. Happy birthday @USNavy

The right: OMG, you killed a body double.

Shit. I just found out that I killed Osama bin Johnson. Drinks are on me, I guess…

Following up with several more tweets, some responding to specific individuals, O’Neill continued to respond to the theory. He also responded to the former Survivor contestant who had been one of the major proponents of the theory, denying the claim that anyone involved in the Bin Laden mission has been killed.

It’s not the first time Trump has been criticized by the former Navy SEAL, for much the same thing — in 2018, Business Insider reported that O’Neill pushed back when Trump criticized his former commander, Bill McRaven. Trump claimed McRaven was “a Hillary Clinton backer and an Obama backer,” after McRaven said that Trump’s attacks on the press were a threat to democracy. O’Neill responded, saying, “The mission to get bin Laden was bipartisan. We all wanted to get him as soon as we could. ADM McRaven was born to lead this mission. I’ll follow him anywhere. If only people heard the real speech he gave the Team.”
