Former GOP Rep. Comstock: The GOP Wants Trump to Go Away But He’s Not Going Anywhere

Republicans are stuck between a rock and a hard place with Donald Trump. He is a toxic figure and incredibly unpopular in many areas in the country. The problem is, he is wildly popular in other parts of the country. And in those places, he helps the GOP win their elections.

Part of the party, specifically in the House of Representatives, there is a lot of support for Trump. But in the senate, most GOP lawmakers prefer to avoid the issue of Trump. In fact, according to Barbara Comstock, most Republicans would like him to disappear.

Comstock made the comments while speaking to Chuck Todd on Sunday. She told the Meet the Press host, “I understand Republicans want to get away from Donald Trump, I mean if Donald Trump disappeared tomorrow, I don’t think you’d have many Republicans in the search party right maybe a few prosecutors, but not Republicans. So they want to get away from him, but the problem is he’s not going to go away.”

The former Virginia congresswoman continued, “But this is not about Democrats or Republicans. It’s about the country and it’s about getting to the truth, and it’s about protecting the Capitol, the people who work there and also making sure this never happens again.”
