Former CIA and DoD Official: Mattis Resigned Over Trump’s Putin Relationship

Speaking on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’, Bash said that Mattis could not tolerate Trump’s willingness to echo Putin’s propaganda and bring U.S. foreign policy in alignment with Russian goals.

Bash asserted, “this is what fundamentally drove Jim Mattis to leave the Pentagon.” “He watched the way we were yielding to Russia on a variety of issues and he watched the way we announced this pullout of Syria, which was a total gift to the Kremlin,” Bash elaborated.

Bash accused Trump of emboldening Russia and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who he called “Russia’s client,” in his decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria. He also suggested that the move, “allowed the Iranians to build a land bridge from Tehran through northern Iran, through Iraq, through Syria and ultimately through Lebanon.” Bash concluded, “we have ultimately yielded our national interests to the interests of Vladimir Putin.”
