For Months the RNC Linked to a Porn Site’s Twitter Account Instead of the Maryland Republican Party’s Account

The ‘party of family values’ appears to have made a blunder, which certainly won’t excite those within the religious right. The RNC’s official website, GOP.com, listed an incorrect Twitter account on their site for the Maryland Republican Party’s official account.

The mixup happened after the Maryland Republican Party decided to change their Twitter username in February from @MDReps to @MDGOP. When the change happened, the RNC never corrected it on their own site. The old @MDReps username was then claimed by Sexycarbabes.com, which frequently posts links to porn sites and images of scantily-clad women in suggestive positions.

The executive director for the Maryland Republican Party, Patrick O’Keefe, took blame for the mixup, saying “We did not (tell them). We updated it on our website and all our entities then though. Not notifying the RNC back in February was just an oversight.”

The incorrect link has been active for over six months and wasn’t changed until the RNC was made aware of their error this afternoon, following a story published by the Capital Gazette.

Maryland Republican Party Chairman Dirk Haire, had this to say:

“Like virtually all Americans, I don’t go on Twitter. We use Facebook much more than Twitter.”

Considering the fact that this link remained active for months, it’s likely that few people actually clicked through to it, and realized that it directed to an adult-oriented Twitter account. Regardless, the irony of the situation is a bit comical.
