Biden has agreed to a $137 million contract with medical supply company Millipore Signma to build a new facility that will produce nitrocellulose membranes, the paper product that displays test results in COVID-19 at-home testing kits. This should allow the production of 85 million more tests per month, as shortages rage.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has named Rina Amiri, a former U.S. government advisor who openly criticized the nation’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, as a Special Envoy for Afghan women, a role in which she will advocate for the rights of women and girls, who have lost much freedom under Taliban rule.
