Federal Judge Extends Mueller’s Grand Jury for 6 Additional Months
Moments ago, Katelyn Polantz of CNN reported that Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the DC District Court has extended the term of the grand jury being used in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictments for an additional six months.
The grand jury, which began serving in July of 2017, for an 18-month term, was set to expire on January 6 (Sunday). It will now be extended until July 6, 2019.
According to federal rules and regulations, a 6-month extension is perfectly fine as long as it is in the public interest to do so. Just because an extension is given for an additional 6 months, that does not mean that they will ultimately use the entire 6 month period.
